The AMTT Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Mike Clapper as the Interim CEO of the Australian Mathematics Trust from 13 January 2025. David Williams (current Acting Interim CEO) transitions to the role of Deputy CEO in the new structure.
In announcing Mike’s appointment as Interim CEO, the AMTT Board Chair, Geoff Shuetrim, stated:
“We are delighted that Mike Clapper has now joined David Williams to lead the AMT team through the current transition phase, while the Board conducts an international search to identify the organisation’s new CEO.
This leadership team will enable AMT to confidently and expertly meet the business-as-usual needs of our various mathematics committees, the schools and the students while also preparing to host IMO 2025. The stability and confidence this gives the organisation means the Board can carefully and diligently recruit an exceptional CEO over coming months.”
While David is relatively new to AMT after joining the board in early 2024 and brings his 30 years of not-for-profit leadership in CEO and COO/CFO roles, Mike brings a very long history of being closely involved with the AMT. Indeed, Mike was the AMT CEO from 2013 to 2016. Since that time, Mike has continued to serve as Chair of Primary and Secondary AMC Committees, and as a member of the AIMO Committee, AMF Committee, AMOC (Senior Problems) Committee and AMOC Committee. He has also previously been a member of both the CAT committee and the Challenge committee. In addition, Mike continues to serve as Australia’s representative for KSF. Mike is held in the highest regard across the mathematics community in Australia and globally.
Mike is based in Melbourne and will split his time between Canberra and Melbourne for the duration of this appointment.
