Australia’s brightest computer coding students have ‘cracked the code’ to international success – bringing home silver and bronze medals from the prestigious International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) held in Sucre, Bolivia from the 27th of July to the 3rd of August.
Informatics is competitive computer programming, using mathematics and coding to solve problems. The IOI is the highest-level pre-tertiary competition in the world, with 330 students from 85 countries participating in this year’s event.
The four Australian students who participated include:
Matthew Lin, Scotch College (VIC), SILVER Medallist (37th of 330 contestants)
Nathan Zhou, Knox Grammar School (NSW), SILVER Medallist (40th of 330 contestants)
Ron Xue, Scotch College (VIC), BRONZE Medallist – (91st of 330 contestants)
Justin Goh, Christ Church Grammar (WA) – BRONZE Medallist (119th of 330 contestants)“These students represent Australia’s best young informatic minds and their results at the IOI are a testament to their hard work and perseverance. These are incredibly challenging problems to solve under time pressure. Each student invested countless hours in rigorous training programs (supported by a passionate team of mentors, leaders, staff, and parents). Congratulations to them and to our staff and volunteers who have supported their journey this year. Their success reflects not only individual excellence but also the strength of the Olympiad and Pathways programs,” said AMT CEO, Mike Clapper.
The Australian Olympiad programs, including both Informatics and Mathematics, are supported by the Australian Government Department of Industry, Science and Resources and the Trust’s National Sponsor, Optiver.
